10 Day Juice Fast Day 3: This one is the hardest…

I think day three is probably the hardest of all the days during a juice fast. I feel tired, and really want some food. Note to self: avoid Pinterest while on a juice fast. There are far too many tasty treats to look at on there! Here’s how day three of the 10 day juice fast went.

Breakfast:

  • 1 golden beet (with the stalk)
  • 3 apples
  • 3 carrots

Lunch:

It’s the holiday season, and I needed me some pumpkin goodness!

  • 1 quarter medium pumpkin
  • 1 green apple
  • 1 fuji apple
  • 1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice for kicks

Mmm…boy was it good! The nice thing about using a pumpkin for juices, is that it’s so inexpensive! A little bit of pumpkin goes a long way!

Dinner:

  • 6 kale leaves
  • 4 stalks of celery
  • 2 apples
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1/2 lemon
  • Piece of ginger

This last one is still my favorite, because it’s just so hearty and filling. Green goodness packed into an awesome juice! Right before dinner I also had a snack of some carrot juice and drank a lot of water throughout the day. I’m ready for day four!

Have any good juice recipes I should try? Let me know about it in the comment section!

I also watched the same documentary and decided I really wanted to try out the juice fast as well, so it’s neat to see other people documenting it! The only thing holding me back at this moment is the fact that money’s a *little* tight, and the cost of the juicer + his estimate of fourteen dollars a day for the veggies seemed a little more than I felt comfortable spending (especially with a SO that likely would not participate), since there’s no active co-ops in the area right now. Is that about right, or do you have any tips a curious somewhat cash-strapped individual might be able to use? And which juicer do you use?

I plan on talking about the juicing methods I use shortly, but you can get a fairly inexpensive centrifugal juicer on amazon. I know a lot of people like the Breville brand. It’s about $75, so it may take some scrimping to save up some money for it. My husband and I decided to forego gifts for each other one year so that we could buy a necessity, so perhaps that might be a good route for you? Right now we are getting our produce from a local health food store and Whole Foods Market. I’m going to do a summary of our costs at the end. We bought a juice press, and it gets nearly double the juice as a regular juicer, so I think our cost on produce is A LOT less than what the guy spent on Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead. However, we did have more up front costs with the juice press. I’ll update on this stuff in a post coming up shortly. Hope this helps a little bit for now :)
