from+the+ground+up+2 From The Ground Up Week 2 Scenario

We’re building up our Extra Care Bucks from nothing.  You can see Week One’s scenario HERE. We all should have approximately $4.28 in Extra Bucks.  Some of us will have a little more, while some might have a little less. You can follow the transactions I plan here, or make them your own. Remember it’s just about learning here.

Here are our transactions for this week.

Transaction 1:
Buy 1 Softsoap Body Wash $4.99
Buy 3 Mentos Gum $1.29-$1.69
Use $4.28 in ECBs
Use $1/1 Softsoap Coupon from the 3/29 SS insert
Use (3) $1/1 Mentos Coupons from the 3/1 SS insert
=.58 + tax Out of Pocket, Earn $4.99 and $1 in Extra Bucks back.
(If Mentos Gum in your area is priced at $1.69, replace the soft soap with the Colgate Deal instead).

Transaction 2
(2) Colgate Enamel Protect, Sensitive Whitening Toothpaste 6oz or 360 sensitive toothbrush $7.98(or 1 Softsoap and 1 Colgate if you did Colgate for the first transaction)
Use $5.99 in Extra Bucks
Use (2) $1/1 Printables HERE (print twice)
= just tax out of pocket, Earn $7.98 in Extra Bucks.

Optional Transaction 3 (Do if they have it in your store or you can wait until next week, since it is a monthly deal. I personally will probably wait until next week if my store is well stocked):
Buy 2 Natural Dentist Mouthwash $13.98
Use $7.98 in Extra Bucks
Use (2) $2/1 Printables HERE
=$2 + tax Out of Pocket, Earn 8 Extra Bucks.
Submit for $10 rebate HERE.

If you want to take advantage of the free Vitamin Water, then you can add that to any of the above transactions.  See that and the rest of the best weekly deals HERE.

Scenario if you have a $4/20 Coupon:
2 Natural Dentist Mouthwash $13.98
2 Colgate $7.98
Use $4/20 Coupon
Use initial $4.28 in Extra Bucks
Use (2) $1/1 Colgate Printable HERE
Use (2) Natural Dentist Printable HERE
=$7.68 + tax Out of Pocket, Earn $15.98 in Extra Bucks.

Then submit for $10 rebate HERE.

So how did you do last week?  Do you think you can handle the deals this week?

I noticed you always list the EB before the coupons in your transactions, and I read somewhere that you should give them in that order ($/$$, EB, MQ, store Q). Can you explain why you give the EB BEFORE the coupons? I always give them last… Should I switch? Thanks!

I did the Natural Dentist deal a few weeks ago, but then I read somewhere that if you use ECBs for a MIR, that you will not get your rebate (since it puts your total below the amount of the rebate). My total after ECBs and coupons was exactly $0 (plus tax). Does that mean that I won’t get my rebate? Or is that only true for particular rebates?

could you please explain why you would do the colgate deal if mentos is priced at 1.69?? I am new at this and trying to make sure I have things somewhat figured out before going in store- thanks so much for your help. I only have 2 of the mentos coupons- would it still be worthwhile for me to even purchase the mentos?

The Thrifty Mama here: If Mentos is priced $1.69 at your store, then the deal would not be as advantageous for you to do.
1.69 x 3 = 4.17
- 3 $1/1 coupons = $1.17
- 1 ECB received = .17 cents total
You can still do the deal if you wish, but I’m mainly trying to help you build up Extra Bucks here, not loose them. If you only have 2 of the coupons, then it really wouldn’t be worthwhile doing.
Hope this helps!
