Here’s what I picked up from a local co-op today for only $18. I’m guessing this produce is worth anywhere from $35-$45, so I saved at the very least, $17. I think the apples, tomatoes and potatoes are local and possibly organic. One grapefruit didn’t make it in the picture because the young ones were too busy eating it. Here is what I got:
4 Grapefruits
11 Apples
5 Sweet Potatoes
3 Tomatoes
Green Onions
Brocolli
Lettuce
1 Zucchini
Grapes
Cantaloupe
Bananas
For those of you that are local to me, you can find this co-op’s website HERE. If you want to find a good co-op or farmer near you, here are a couple of websites I suggest:
http://www.localharvest.org/ – find local farmers and co-ops in your area.
Yahoo Groups -many people set up co-ops through groups here on Yahoo.
http://www.meetup.com/ – this is another site that people set up groups through.
My garden is almost completely destroyed due to flooding, fungus and neglect on my part. I’ll post a devastating picture for you guys later. For my first year of attempting organic gardening I’m pretty happy with myself, but I did not get as much as I would have hoped. So I will be attempting some fall planting soon, and will also be getting my produce from local co-ops and stores (when I find deals).
How are you guys saving on your produce? I’d love to hear your tips!

Thanks for the link to your co-op. I’ve been wanting to do this and I live in Kennesaw so it’s convenient. Have you been to the farmer’s market at Adams park on Tuesday mornings? I keep meaning to go but haven’t made it yet.
I go to the Farmer’s Market weekly and vegetable garden year-round.
I followed you with the planting and the beds, for me also the flooding destroyed one of the beds, but at least the other one is giving me some more tomatoes and peppers. What are you planning to plant for fall? That will give me ideas..thanks
