I’m a nursing mother, so I don’t normally post formula deals, but this one looks good. Walmart currently has their Parent’s Choice infant formula for only $5 each! If you’re a name brand formula parent, then I encourage you to look into buying store brand formula, as it will save you a ton of money each month.
When I checked out some of the prices on formula, I was disgusted by the high prices. Some of these companies almost seem like they are price-gouging desperate parents that only want to ensure their babies have the best nutrition. When comparing prices, store brand formula seems to be the cheapest, hands down. With Walmart having it priced at just $5 a can, that can easily save you $10-15 per can depending on what you normally buy. But here’s the big question: Are you sacrificing quality when you purchase store brand formula?
Store brand formulas, which are labeled with the names of retail-store brands, are as nutritionally equivalent to name-brand formulas. Sold at more than 35,000 retailers, grocery stores, and drugstores such as Walmart, Sam’s Club, Target, Kroger, Walgreens, CVS, and Babies “R” Us, store brands typically save parents up to 50 percent on formula.
All infant formulas marketed in the United States are subject to the same exacting standards of the FDA, pursuant to the Infant Formula Act of 1980 and the subsequent LSRO report commissioned by FDA in 1998. This legislation vested FDA with the authority to ensure that all infant formulas sold in the United States meet minimum and maximum nutrient specifications.
So….if it’s all the same, why the drastic differences in price? Two words: Branding and Marketing. It’s the same reason you pay more for a shirt from Abercrombie than you do for a similar one from Target. Both made of 100% cotton, but they have a different name on the tag.
If you are unable to breastfeed for some reason, then I encourage you to consider buying store brand for your baby. Try to move past your initial negative connotations that happen when you think of store brand, and look into the facts that all formulas are held to the same standards. Many store brands are now offering organic as well (not 2/$10), and these will still save you over the national brand.
With saving at least $10-$15 per can, that easily adds up to a savings of almost $60 a month depending on the price of the brand you normally get. You can check out some helpful information on store brands and print a coupon HERE.

I went to Walmart today and they are still full price. Is this an advertised sale? Thanks so much!
yes it is, you can see it advertised on the site here: http://www.parentschoiceformula.com/baby-formula-deals.aspx Maybe you could take in a print out and show it to them?
Hi! As a mommy of 2 kiddos that I bought the Walmart brand of formula for, I cannot recommend it enough! What a savings. I was unable to nurse my daughter, but did nurse my son. Buy the store brand and save the rest of the money for diapers, etc.
What’s really great is now you can get all sorts of varieties of store brand formulas. It’s no longer just the plain iron enriched. Plus, it never hurts to have a can in the pantry just in case.
Hi!
Thanks for this post!! We used Parent’s Choice over the National name brands and we saved somewhere around $1400 in the time that we spent formula feeding my twin girls. That’s a lot of money! Money that we used for diapers, clothes, and other necessities for them!
Many people are scared to try the store brand infant formulas, fearing they aren’t as good as the national name brands. They may not know that the FDA has such strict guidelines and regulations on infant formula, that there is no room to skimp on nutrition. Store Brand infant formulas are nutritionally equal to the name brands, they just cost about 1/2 the price. Check out the Parent’s Choice Savings Calculator You’d be surprised how much $$ you can save. http://parentschoiceformula.com/baby-formula-savings-calculator.aspx
