Are you ready for one last giveaway before Christmas hits us?
Subway recently sent me some gift cards so that I would try them out, and give away some to three of my readers. I had not really eaten much at Subway before, so I was anxious to try it and provide some feedback for the company.
What I do like: They are trying to offer more healthier items on their menu than most fast food places. The selection of subs that are 6 grams of fat or less are fairly tastey. The vegetables all seemed really fresh to me, and I love that they offer fresh spinach as a topping choice, because most places do not.
They have a couple of deals going on right now: 1. Buy a $10 gift card and get a free cookie, 2. Everyone wins something when you buy a medium sized drink. My husband and I both won something with our medium drinks. He won a pizza (yes they have pizza), and I won some Sun Chips…mine was the better win I think, because it is a lot healthier than pizza.
What I do not like: I still think Subway has a ways to go when it comes to offering healthier subs. The preservatives in most of their items was enough to make me cringe. I also was not satisfied with the freshness of the meats or the breads. All the meats were pre-cooked and then heated when we ordered (I know this is the way things are at most places, but I can always dream of a better way!), and the breads seemed a little old and were too thin for my tastes. I like thick fresh bread when I have a sub.
Either way, it was nice to be able to try some of Subway’s subs, and also see how they compare to most fast food places. If you have to stop somewhere quick to eat, I would definitely recommend picking up a sub versus a cheeseburger and fries.

I agree with your comments about Subway. I also wish they had a greater variety of veggie options for those who don’t eat meat or just want a vegetarian meal once in a while. But it’s still a reliable go-to for a quick meal!

Happy Holidays–and just to note, Subway has dough shipped in to them and bakes their bread “fresh” daily. One of the things I enjoy about them is that their bread is fairly fresh when compared with other fast foods.

We like to pick up Subway when we visit my husband’s grandparents. We buy 3 of the $5 subs and have them cut in thirds. It is a great way to feed all 8 of us on a budget!
