Almond and other Nut Milks are extremely easy to make, and can actually save you some money.   If you will do home-made  nut milks instead of cow’s milk and other pre-packaged milks at the store,  you can save a lot of money.  Here’s how to quickly and easily make Almond or other nut milks:

  1. Soak 1 cup of Almonds in water for at least six hours.  Keep in the refrigerator while soaking.
  2. Drain and rinse VERY well.
  3. Put almonds in a blender and cover with water.  Blend, and continue adding water as the blender struggles until the blender is filled to the top with liquid.
  4. Strain the almonds out, preferably using an Almond Milk Bag, and squeeze every last ounce of yummy liquid out of the almonds.

You will have almond pulp, and almond milk leftover.  Add your favorite natural sweetener to the Almond milk or drink straight.  Use the leftover nut pulp in cookies, breads and other recipes that call for nuts.

It’s very simple to make, and oh so good for you and your family!  This technique will work for cashews and other nuts as well.  Earth Fare has a 20% off bulk purchase coupon right now, so you can go there to purchase some nuts in bulk.

Something to think about:

Raw almonds are the best way to go if you want to retain all the fabulous nutrients and anti-oxidants that they naturally have. Due to new laws and regulations, all  nuts sold in stores are now pasteurized.  So if almonds in the stores say “raw,” they are not really raw.  The only way to get raw almonds in bulk, is to buy them directly from a farmer, which you can find many available online.
