Aloe Vera Lemonade – Cute Boy Not Included

For our month-long NO Spending Spree in the middle of the Summer, I knew we were going to be facing some stifling hot days. So refreshing cold lemonade was definitely something I wanted on our menu for the month. I previously wrote about how to make aloe vera juice. Be sure to check out that article before you start making your aloe vera lemonade.

For this lemonade recipe, I decided to add in some aloe vera for an added immunity booster. This is very simple to make and takes approximately 5-10 minutes when you calculate the time to cut the aloe vera stalk.

Aloe Vera Lemonade Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 Big Healthy Aloe Vera Stalk
  • 4 Cups of Water
  • 3/4 Cup of Lemon Juice
  • 1/2 Cup of Turbinado (Organic Raw Cane Sugar)

Directions:

  1. Filet and cut out the gel from your Aloe Vera stalk.
  2. Add to a blender with the rest of your ingredients.
  3. Blend until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  4. Chill and then serve.

It will look frothy while blending, but then it settles and looks like normal lemonade.

This makes approximately 1 quart of lemonade. I use Real Lemon lemon juice for my lemonade, because it is easier and a lot cheaper than buying and squeezing fresh lemons. If you have a Costco membership, you can get 2-48 ounce bottles of Real Lemon for just $4.99 and have fresh lemonade for the Summer always at your fingertips.

We had family over this past weekend, and the lemonade was a hit!  And no one was wise to the fact that aloe vera was an ingredient, because you can’t even taste it.

I was literally *just* thinking about making this. I’ll let you know how it turns out. I’ve been wanting to try Aloe juice for my stomach issues for a while.

Is there anything wrong with using the whole aloe vera spear? I know that my VitaMix would pulverize it, but I don’t know if there is a nutritional reason for not using the outer portion?

There’s nothing wrong with using the stalk. Just make sure to wash it well! Actually, the inner part of the aloe will cause diarhea. Most aloe companies will remove the part that does that before processing.

Mine too! Whether it’s a hand or foot, it doesn’t matter as long as a body part is in my shot…lol.

Could you use aloe vera juice instead? How much of it do you think I would need? I’ve got some in my fridge now! :)

Hey Kim! You could definitely use that. I would guess 1/4-1/2 a cup.

That looks yummy! I actually buy aloe vera juice from Trader Joe’s and mix with juice for my son. It’s also a great natural laxative if you have stomach issues.

I just made this and drank it up. . . I’m just a little concerned about the previous commenter who mentioned the “laxative” effect. Yikes. :)

Hey Sarah – I think you only have to worry about that if you consume a lot of it. :)
