Amazon just announced that they added over a thousand more movies and shows to the free streaming section (including seven seasons of Sesame Street). If you are an Amazon Prime member then you will get to watch these for free with your membership! In addition to this you also get free 2-day shipping on Amazon.com for an entire year.

I have been trying out Amazon Prime to check out shows, and most of what is available is also available on Netflix Instant Streaming.

When looking at the numbers, I would say that Amazon Prime is a better deal than paying for Netflix Instant Streaming, even if the only thing you want is to watch shows. But since you also get free 2-day shipping on orders at Amazon.com for a year with your membership, this seems to be almost a no-brainer.

But to be fair to Netflix, their browsing features and usability on my TV are a lot easier to use. I also believe they have more available to watch instantly. If Amazon can catch up in these areas, then they will definitely be a force to be reckoned with.

You can sign-up for a free one-month trial of Amazon Prime here.

Netflix has 100000 titles whereas I see 1500 Amazon titles mentioned that come with Prime Memership. Netflix seems like the better deal to me.

Thanks for that info. Another thing in favor of Netflix is that you get a free rental movie out at a time, right?

Yes, but that’s at a higher rate than the $7.99 plan.

We have Netflix, but I decided to try this as well for a month for free. Does anyone know if there is a way to filter the movies you are able to stream? I have my settings with Netflix set so that nobody can watch any movies rated above PG-13, (unless I change the settings on the website myself) or we would have a lot of R rated horror movie watching while I’m not home (10 and 13 year olds).

You can do it through Roku device, or through a Blu-Ray that has streaming capability.
