Wow, thank you for coming up with the list. I shop Costco a lot but after reading your list, didn’t realize that they do have a lot of organic items. One thing I bought their organic broccoli (frozen) and then read on the package that it was a product of China. :( I was so disappointed.

I love your blog, you have done so much! Thank you!!!

Teri January 25, 2012 at 1:05 am

I was super disappointed as well to see they sold organic broccoli from China. How frightening. Every time I pass by it I want to leave a note to warn shoppers as most people expect our produce to be coming from China. Really what we need to do is contact Costco headquarters about it.

Teri January 25, 2012 at 1:07 am

Correction: Most people DON’T expect their produce to be coming from China.

Great list! Thanks Crystal. Think I might have to get a membership. I shared your post on FB and asked friends what other organic items they have found at Costco and several said organic meats and dairy also.

Thanks Crystal! I’ve been hearing Costco was selling organic and this list really helps me in deciding to join. A few questions for anyone that currently shops there, do they sell organic chicken/beef/turkey? And how is it quality/taste wise? Do they sell Organic Valley products (Cheese, Milk)? Thanks in advance!

Reply

Kristin January 19, 2011 at 4:23 pm

They do sell organic ground beef. I’m not sure about any other meats, though. I think whole chickens, maybe? I don’t remember the brands they sell of dairy, though. I’m sure stores vary, though, so if you are thinking of joining, you should probably check with your local store for sure.

This is great! We just moved and there is a Costco near us. I’m going to have to check it out!

One thing to add is the almond butter at Costco. I think a 26 oz jar is $6.99 – about the same price as a jar that’s a 1/4 the size anywhere else I’ve seen.

Kelly January 19, 2011 at 2:08 pm

Thanks so much! I’m glad to know I’m not the only one hanging out at Costco pricing stuff out! :) I know there are a lot of people out there who don’t think Costco is worth the membership fee because a lot of items are cheaper at the grocery store…but not everything is!

Carla, I think their meat is great! Great quality and taste (although, some of the taste depends on if you are a great cook or not! Lol! )

Thanks for the list! I just wanted to add a few things that are at my Costco in AZ, they carry 3 half gallons of their brand of 1% organic milk I believe it is 7.99. Also they just started carrying a 2lbs block of organic cheddar for 6.99(was so excited when I saw this).
They also have a half gallon of Horizon organic half and half for 4.99 and a 18 pack of organic eggs for 4.99. Last thing is 3lbs of organic ground beef for 12.99, organic bonless skinless chicken breast for 5.99 a pound, whole chicken and bonless skinless chicken thighs, I believe the thighs run about 3.99lbs but I can’t remember the price of the whole chickens:)

My husband absolutely LOVES the Kirkland organic peanut butter! It’s really nice because you don’t have to continually stir it to keep the oil mixed in. Also, Simone- we’re having a baby in SIX weeks and we’re naming her Simone! We’re completely stumped on a middle name (family names don’t work in this case). Would you mind sharing yours? Anyone else, suggestions are welcome:)

Love it Crystal! I was just there today and they had organic blueberries for $6.49 (24oz)! We go through a lot of blueberries, so I bought two packs. Some of their prices are amazing.

Costco isn’t very close to us either. But.your list is great and I may go check it out. Are the meats listed as organic actual grass fed beef and antibiotic free chicken? Sometimes the organic label is a bit deceitful. We have a lot of farmers and ranchers around here, but chickens in particular are hard to find.

Be sure to check out the Subscribe & Save option on Amazon.com ~ many items can be found there at really great prices … I’ve found Nature’s Path cereals there ~ different varieties every time ~ at about $16.08 for 6 boxes … that’s only about $2.68 a box! Free shipping, too … and, if you like it and they have it at that price again, it will come directly to your door! they also had red quinoa recently …

Crystal, my Costco is carrying the following organic produce now (Northern CA; moved to CA last year)! Most of the organic produce @ my Costco comes from right around my area so I’m not sure if they are shipping this to the other stores but if they are then it’s definitely worth making the trip to get some. The fruit tastes amazing. Here’s what I found this week:

4lbs. Organic Red Grapes $8.97
2.25 lbs (six 6oz. containers) Organic Raspberries $9.99

The Costco here in Northern CA (Sacramento) is carrying quite a few organic produce items this summer. I know that I have seen several of the green price signs in the produce area. I’ll try and look the next time I’m there so that I can come back and update here.

Hope you’re doing well Crystal. Much love to you sister!

Crystal June 4, 2011 at 1:24 pm

Reply

Starbucksgirl June 9, 2011 at 1:53 am

The grapes were actually $7.99 (not $8.97…..just glanced at my receipt and noticed that they rang up at $7.99 even though the sign said $8.97). $2 per lb. is excellent for Organic Red Grapes (and they are so crisp and delicious this year). They come from a company called Anthony’s Vineyards. Their website can be found here: http://anthonyvineyards.com/

BTW, I checked out some of your posts on the 30 day shred. Nice job. I’m starting that same program when I return from vacation in a few weeks. I did the video with my girlfriend while visiting Nashville a few weeks ago and it just about killed me the first day. LOL. Hopefully, I’ll be able to drop a few pounds. Your posts were an inspiration to me. :)

starbucksgirl July 1, 2011 at 8:06 pm

Crystal, you might want to forego updating the list with the deals that I told you about. I’m pretty sure that we are the only Costco that is getting these great organic raspberry and grape deals. Apparently, they are not shipping these goodies to the other stores. Bummer. Have a great summer sis!

Do you know the cost of whole wheat flour and sugars at costco? Where would you purchase bulk baking goods? Thanks.

Reply

Caroline August 19, 2011 at 4:46 pm

I went by Costco yesterday, and picked up a 10 lb bag of Wholesome Sweeteners organicc (and free trade) cane sugar for $10.99

Reply

Carolyn December 10, 2011 at 2:05 pm

I saw the organic sugar when I was there last time, but wasn’t sure if it was healthy to get. I know it’s organic but is it just as unhealthy as nonorganic sugar? I’ve been trying to figure out the best (and cheapest!) way to replace regular sugar in my baking but not sure yet. I am new to all this natural and organic and I am finding the learning curve is steep! :)

Reply

Crystal Collins December 10, 2011 at 5:37 pm

I personally chose not to get it. It is highly processed and refined, despited the fact that it is organic. Through this it has lost most of its nutritional value. However, it is better than just getting regular sugar as it isn’t tainted with pesticides or any other chemicals. It just depends on what you are looking for if you get it. I might eventually get some for some of my baking. But too much of any type of sugar isn’t healthy for the body.

Reply

Carolyn December 10, 2011 at 7:03 pm

That was my thinking. I am trying to find more recipes that don’t have lots of sugar in them. But do you have something you recommend in place of sugar?

Reply

Crystal Collins December 12, 2011 at 10:42 am

I use Sucanat just like Emily does. Love it!

Reply

Emily December 10, 2011 at 6:26 pm

Carolyn, my body doesn’t do well with refined sugar (organic or not) so I replace with Sucanat. It is brown (same color as brown sugar, more or less) and made up of tiny balls rather than crystals. Tastes a bit molassesy, but you’ll never notice in most recipes. I love it because it is barely refined at all – just slightly heated so the water evaporates out. I get mine from http://www.azurestandard.com

Reply

Carolyn January 11, 2012 at 12:56 pm

Thank you so much for the info!! There is a co-op out of Atlanta that delivers to me in Florida that sells Sucanat in bulk. It’s Bread Beckers, which through the co-op, offers cheap shipping and a 5% discount. I have found being in Florida, shipping is pretty costly from most places. I think I am going to go ahead and order some organic rolled oats, brown rice and sucanat in big bulk and see how it works out. THANK YOU for all the help and advice!!!

Kristin F. December 12, 2011 at 2:08 am

The costco in our area (seattle area) also has twin packs of dave’s killer bread (organic) in 2 varieties for around $6.50 per twin pack. They also have organic single serving hummus packs, not sure the price though (I think it’s Sabra).

I know this isn’t Costco but Bountiful Baskets is now offering LOTS of pickup areas around Seattle and they have organic produce baskets for I think $25 a week…5 loaves of organic bread for $12 and I just heard that they will be carrying organic flour and Olive oil starting in Jan. Check them out!!

Oh we LOVE Bountiful Baskets. We buy a basket each week and bread about once a month. Not knowing what you’re getting each week is a little exciting and you get SOO much for the price! Our laundry basket is always overflowing with fresh fruits and veggies.
I pick up our basket on Saturday and then make our weekly menu based on what we get. So much fun!

I would agree that this is a very concise list! I shop @ the Southlake, TX store, and the main things I go for are the organic produce and a few other high-nutrition, minimally processed items. I highly recommend the organic blueberries, organic apples and the Maranatha Almond Butter (ground almonds only) 26 oz. $5.99. The Trident Farms Fish Sticks are the best and only ones I’ll buy, and well priced for a large bag, I believe $12.99.
From what I was told recently by our local store, the Kashi Blueberry waffles are no longer carried, but may be again in the future.

Thanks for your list–I’m sure many can benefit from your tips!
