CVS: Paying You With Extra Bucks To Use Reusable Bags!!!

Holy cow, I am excited about this one!  I use my reusable bags all the time in CVS, but have never gotten Extra Bucks for it!  This little card is available for only .99 cents at CVS.  But every fourth time you come in shopping with your reusable bags and scan this card, you will earn $1 Extra Buck!  And I thought Whole Foods giving us .10 cents off per bag was a great deal!  Has anyone seen these cards yet?  Apparently they are up by the registers.

And for those of you interested, here is the fine print on the back of the card:

“To earn Extra bucks for a transaction in store, your Extra care card, green bag tag, and reusable bag must be presented w/ purchase at checkout. Limit of one green tag use/scan per day per household. Every 4th purchase your ECB will print at the bottom of your cash register receipt as a $1 coupon good for your next purchase. Extra bucks can be used until the exp. date shown on the coupon….”

Maybe more companies will start offering deals like this with CVS jumping on board the green train.

Thanks Couponing To Disney!

Does this have to be a CVS reusable bag or any reusable bag?

Alissabeth, the photo looks like it says “any” reusable bag. :-)

I think this will be the perfect way for me to remember to actually bring my reusable bags in the store instead of them remaining in the back seat of the car all the time. I will definitely look for these on my next CVS run!

ARGH! We thought of this idea and tried to market it to different companies as a barcode on the reusable bag or hang tag inside ARGH! Simply Green Solutions even approached a CVS competitor about the idea, and nobody seemed to budge. It’s a good idea and others will now copy it – it always takes just one to lead and the rest to follow.

FYI, everyone: I went to CVS yesterday (10/15) and they did not have these. The lady at the counter gave me a very blank stare. Maybe they are regional or maybe they haven’t shipped out everywhere, but I’ll keep looking!

I bought one last week and tried to use it for the first time today. The cashier tried to scan my red card, then the green tag, and the register kept beeping, saying something like “no items purchased”. I came home and called the number on my CVS card and they told me the green tag must be scanned AFTER your items are scanned. And no, he couldn’t credit my account. Grrrr! Learn from me! :)

I’m in Central PA and I got one sometime in November. I got my first $1 ECB back from using it – so it has officially paid for itself… now I will reap the rewards. Fine print – it will only count once per day, so if you are doing multiple transactions on one day, don’t bother having them scan it more than once. Makes sense to me so people don’t abuse the system. You can use any bag you want which is nice.

I have had one for over a month now and already earned an ECB with it … yes, you can use ANY green (or other store bag), as the whole Mktg plan is to go green and save on the planet by stop using the store bags. I go to CVS about 2x a week, so this is an easy $2 ECB’s in my pocket each month. :)
