#DadsRock Giveaway: $250 Prize Pack from Powermat

The Powermat really is a very cool piece of technology. It uses magnetic induction to charge the devices, and it’s really easy to use: You just slip a case on your device, set it on the mat, hear a sound and see a light come on. That’s it! It literally replaces all the charging cables that you would normally need to charge your mobile devices with a single power cable. You can use it for DS, DSi, iPod, iPhone, etc. Another cool thing about the Powermat is that they send you a universal receiver with a bunch of interchangeable tips, so that you can use the Powermat to charge almost every device in your house right out of the box. With Powermat, I noticed that it actually charges my devices faster than if I charged with the cable provided by the manufacturer. Ease and faster charging are two big benefits in my book.

My main dislike for the Powermat is the iPhone case. When the case is on the iPhone, the data/charging port is blocked. Instead, it gives a micro USB port. What’s the problem with that, you might ask? What iPhone/iPod accessory connects via micro USB? None! The case will have to be pulled off (which is no easy task) every time you want to use another accessory. Another downside to this product is that the cost of it can add up rather quickly. My wife (The Thrifty Mama) actually prefers this product over her regular phone charger because of the simplicity and streamlined features, but I personally plan to stick with my regular power cord. I do intend to continue using Powermat for our other electronic devices as it is still an incredible charging station to own. Let’s hope they come out with a better case for the iPhone.

What a neat device! My toddler actually keeps pulling my iphone cord while it is charging on the computer. The cord has started to show it’s wires inside because of the abuse it’s taken. This seems like a great device for charging our portable devices.
