I was watching The Biggest Loser on Hulu the other day.  This is the first season that I will watch, as I think it will inspire and motivate me to continue exercising and eating healthy. There was a moment at the end of the show when the group was trying to decide which one of two contestants they should vote off.  One person suggested they look at just the numbers for weight loss to decide who should be voted off.  Another person (Allen) chimed in with what I believe was a profound statement: “All of us are gonna go home.  And if my time ever comes, I pray to God that you guys do not look at me as a number.  I am more than a number. We are all more than a number.”

In a world that is constantly growing, and becoming more and more reliant on technology, it’s easy for us all to become numbers in the eyes of our government, bosses, friends and at the places we shop.  Value seems to have become based more and more on what we do, the things we own, where we live, the money we make, the amount we weigh, the color of our hair, and so on and so forth.

Sometimes it makes me want to cry out, “I am more than my pant size or weight, more than my Wii Fit Age, more than just another stay-at-home Mom, and more than just a couponer.”  Who I am is not based on how I look or how much I earn.

Here’s where I’m going with this:  If you constantly seek for this world to value you, you will always be left feeling disappointed and empty.  But there is someone who values you as more than just a number.  God loves you, and values you.   He doesn’t see you as the person who is overweight, was sexually abused, is jobless, ect…  He sees you as His beautiful creation that He wants to cherish and nurture.  No matter what you have done, or do now, you have value, and are absolutely the most precious thing God ever made.  When you accept this, you become more than a number.  You are not longer defined by what you are, but by who you are in the Lord.
