grocery challenge header All You Grocery Challenge: Can You Make It On $25/Week?

Are you a pro now at grocery shopping, and are ready to compete with others?  If you can be the best at using only $25 a week per family member on groceries,  All You will give you a $1,000 grocery card, + a year’s supply of Knorr products.

I’ve got a little competition going on with some of the other Mom bloggers out there, and I say my readers will do better than theirs! All you have to do is go through my  link HERE, and it will keep track of how my readers do!  You guys ready to be the ultimate coupon savers?  Here are the details…

What you need to do:

  • During the contest, groceries that you purchase count toward your weekly total. However, feel free to grow, barter or use stockpiled food to supplement your meals. Creativity and ingenuity count!
  • If you eat at a restaurant or buy takeout, the cost must go toward the week’s total.
  • Household supplies and toiletries do not count toward each weeks total.
  • Keep track of your money using the optional Spending Log.
  • Save receipts–you will be required to submit them if you are a finalist.

My tips for you:

  • Make sure your stockpile is well stocked before the competition begins.
  • Plan your shopping trips well – no impulses for one month!
  • Plan meals creatively around what you have.  Most of us have pantries full of things, but yet we continue to go shopping.  Plan your meals so that you utilize what you have very well.
  • Take advantage of bartering and gardening.  Trade friends and family for things you need out of what you have in your stockpile.

Dates of the competition: July 13 – August 17.  YOU MUST REGISTER BY JULY 12!!

So go ahead and register HERE and look around.  They have a great spending log to use, so that you can easily keep track of everything.  And remember to keep all of your receipts!

This should be fun!  I’m going to do it right along with you guys, so hopefully you’ll get inspiration from me (although, I will not be officially entering, I would love one of my readers to win!).  And it will be great if we can plan shopping trip scenarios and strategies with each other.  Let’s get ready to save!

Oops! The official website says $25/week per person in a family of four…that’s $100 per week for four weeks.
I signed up…great challenge!!!

I wonder if babies in utero count towards household family members? :) If not, $100 bucks a week is well more than we usually spend on groceries!!!

Man, I was all excited about trying to make it on $25/week for our FAMILY. Turns out they want to know if I can make it on $125/wk. Which is nearly twice our normal weekly budget. That isn’t nearly so much fun! I may try for $25 just for the heck of it. :)

does the person who spent the least win?? or is it based on what you make with what you buy or what???

Do you have to keep record of your meals as well.?

Lol! I can’t afford to spend that much a week! Are you suppose to spend the whole $25 per person. Is it a how much can you get type of contest, or how low can you go under budget?

It’s “spend no more than” $25 per person, and that doesn’t include toiletries. I’d like to see some of us make that $25 for a family of four :) That’s a challenge!!

Melissa – I’m not sure about the WIC question. I’ll get back to you when I find out.

“All entries and exit forms will be judged by All You’s editors, based on the following criteria: Staying within contest spending guidelines (50%); creativity and ingenuity (25%); and healthy choices (25%). All You will select 10 finalists, from whom a winner will be chosen on or before August 24, 2009. All finalists must submit grocery receipts. Incomplete and/or inaccurate entries and entries not complying with all rules are subject to disqualification. Decisions of judges are final and binding. Winner will be notified by telephone on or before August 24, 2009. ”

I’m assuming spending less, but continuing to eat healthy would definitely make for a better winner :)

I’m going for $25 total for my family (we’ll be a family of four during that time period). I’m going to use my WIC and not count that in my $25(but submit the receipts for the WIC products), however I’ll be so far under budget that it won’t matter!

I’m also debating NOT using my stockpile at all. I want to prove that ANYONE can do it with some dedication and creativity! If I do this, I’ll probably bump the budget up to $40-$50 for the 4 of us and just use the basic pantry items (oil, spices, condiments, etc).

As far as the menu planning goes- well, I do this every week! Not too worried, just worried about keeping track of everything!

I wish everyone luck. I am passing on this adventure. I have been working hard on our stockpile this go around since dec. This time I am ver serious about it.
I am still spending about $400 a month or a little more. I am trying to learn cvs/ wags to cut that down some.
Good luck!

I am excited about this challenge and have linked your post to my blog. I’m doing this because I am so thankful for all we’ve learned from blogs like yours. Lots of families think it’s impossible to spend that little on food. And we can show them that it can be a reality, and easier than they think. I see this more as a inspiration to others out there who have doubts and misconceptions about frugal living.
