Handmade Gifts – DIY Tiered Server
Posted By Beth K On December 5, 2012 @ 2:00 pm In Home and Garden | No Comments
A lovely handmade gift for any friend or family member is a tiered food service stand. It’s simple and lovely and takes no special skills. You only need some supplies that you might already have around your house.
NOTE: Make sure to choose a glue that is appropriate for the glass, plastic, metal or other material that you are bonding.
The most fun of this project is finding the dishes that you want to use. It’s a great idea to mix and match plates, dishes, saucers and even tea cups for just the right combination for your individual table setting or hostess style. Thrift stores are my favorite place to find interesting and eclectic, one-of-a-kind tableware that makes the most unique handmade gift. You can use fine porcelain or everyday plastic to personalize this project to your style.
The dishes and candlestick I’m using are all from the 99 Cent store. I decided to go with clear glass service to make these tiered stands more versatile. They’ll be able to be used in any season and with any décor. I also like them because they’re fancy enough to be used for adult events or children’s birthday parties.
There are some really cute seasonal melamine plates and dishes at Target and Bed Bath and Beyond throughout the year. Get the clearance dishes after this year’s holiday sales and make a new server for your table when next year’s holiday rolls around. You can even use spray paint on used candlesticks to make them perfectly match your stand. Themed service is perfect for Easter, Valentine’s Day, Independence Day and Christmas! What a thrifty way to serve your guests in style!
If you find the right combination you love, try three-tiered servers and pedestal cake stands to suit your individual tastes.
These handmade gifts would be perfect for a holiday hostess gift, thrifty baby shower décor, or a quick and easy gift for your mother-in-law who has everything.
