Who’d have thought that tortillas were so easy to make? This a great money saver, and in my opinion they taste better than store-bought.
I just used the recipe HERE, and last night we had Quesadillas and Fajitas. I made up the Tortillas, cooked up some of that chuck steak I got super cheap at Target last month, and we had a delicious meal for our family for just a few dollars.
I have plenty of tortillas left over, so this morning we are having breakfast burritos. Yum!

There is absolutely nothing better in our kitchen than homemade tortillas! Our kids literally stand at the stove while I “dry fry” each one in the iron skillet, hoping they are next in line to eat it.
I use a similar recipe, which can be mixed in the bread machine on dough setting, and use freshly ground whole wheat flour and olive oil instead.
I learned quickly that my arms, hands, and back cannot hand-roll out these tortillas, so I bought a tortilla maker at Big Lots to press them out. Then I transfer them to hot dry iron skillets to finish. I get nice brown bubbles on each side.
Thank you for reminding me to make more tortillas! I also keep dough balls refrigerated, so we can have fresh, hot tortillas anytime we want.
Wow, thank you for sharing! I can’t wait to try these. We make mexican food a lot in our house-and I don’t know why I never thought of making my own tortillas!
We make easy, homemade (and cheap) refried beans-they are so yummy-in case you want to try them, I posted the recipe a few weeks back:

Thank you, thank you ,thank you! I have a couple of picky eaters but one thing that my 7yo daughter eats constantly is a flour tortilla with cheese only. I have been trying to use coupons because the price keeps going up but now I can just make them and the recipe looks so darn easy. I can’t wait for her to make them with me and then try what she makes. She will absolutely love this!!!!
Could you please post the recipe or a link to the recipe for using the Target chuck steak in fajitas? I have some of this leftover as well, and I can only eat so much stir-fry!
For the meat I just cooked it in a pan with a little oil to start out, and sprinkled on some fajita seasoning. I got some fajita seasoning for .50 cents at Whole Foods a while back, and it made the meat delicious.
I didn’t have onions or peppers to add, so we just had it with salsa, sour cream and shredded cheese. It was very good.
Thank you. I’m going to try this soon, yum!

i could live on tortillas, my mom has an old press she’s had since my brothers were little..going to have to go “shopping” in her cabinet! I doubt she has used it in YEARS!
So, all you do is “fry” them in the pan with nothing in it? I am about to attempt these. My first time, but they look easy and sound yummy!
Amy – yes that is all you do! Easy huh?
I just started making tortillas too.I think they taste so much better than store bought.
Yes tortillas are easy to make but my problem is I can never eat just one! Hahaha! Thanks for a great newsletter!!
After reading all the wonderful comments about making tortillas, I just have one thing to say: You gals must not be from Texas!
Is it time consuming? I’ve heard they are straight forward to make but take a long time for the whole process, so I’m curious
We go through a lot of them, so I’d love to try
It wasn’t too bad. If you have a rolling pin it will go super fast. I on the other hand had to use a cup that kept giving me issues, so flattening it wasn’t so easy.
I’ve heard that they were so easy to make but I’ve never made them! I should totally give it a try!
