What does the glycerin do for this? I make hand soap this way for my family..but we just use the grated bar soap and water.

Melissa,
The glycerin softens the skin. It helps your skin retain moisture.

You can also put a little bit of olive, grapeseed, sunflower oil in your soap mixture and whip it in the food processor to get really great moisturized skin. About 1/4 to 1/2 a cup of your favorite oil per batch of soap will do wonders.
