My family always seems to pick up some sort of summer cold.  There’s just something about summer that makes a sickness more miserable.  This year I’m going to be prepared with a homemade solution.

If you like the idea of treating sickness with herbs instead of synthetic chemicals, you’ll want to check out this recipe for homemade herbal cold and cough syrup.  The recipe lasts for 3 months in the fridge, but you can add brandy to increase the shelf life to 6 months and help soothe the coughing even more.

Use local honey, if you can, and consider purchasing the other ingredients from Mountain Rose Herbs.
