Well, actually it’s $4, because I bought four (one for each member of our family). The Dollar Tree has these for only $1, which is a bargain compared to the price at Toys R’ Us (we will not speak of that price here for fear we might cause heart palpitations).
For $1, each of my kids are having a blast, and I’m trying to get my hips to work right in order to spin this thing. It’s not as easy as I remember it being.
Here are a few things you can do with a Hula Hoop:
The Standard: Spin it around your waist, and try not to let it drop.
Roll it down the yard or across the floor.
Place several in a row and jump from one hoop to the next like hopscotch.
Twist Spin it on the floor like you would a quarter or nickel, and see how long until it falls.
Do a backyard toss game, and try to get them around an object of some sort.
What ideas do you have for playing with Hula Hoops?

I like to use hula hoops like a skip-it type thing and spin it on my right foot and use my left foot to jump over it as it spins around. Good exercise! I wonder if my parents still have my hula hoops in their garage….
I cannot believe how much some toys are at some stores!!!
I didn’t know the Dollar Tree had hula hoops. I have no business spending money but a few dollars for some good games might be worth it
That cute pic of your daughter with hula hoops at DT simply makes me smile! ^_^
I just picked one up for my son last week! He’s been having so much fun with his.

They also provide great entertainment at birthday parties!!
We use them to create a circus. My 3 yr old loves to be the lion, the elpohant, the clowns, the ringmaste, etc. you can also use your neck or hands to spin them.
Love the ad that’s up on the right hand side of your site. That’s exactly how I look when I have a hula hoop! LOL!
I’m going to have to go pick up a few at DT. I’m planning to use one to make a canopy over my daughter’s bed – hang it from the ceiling and hang fabric/ribbon (which I already have) from the hoop!

We throw it with a backspin on it and it rolls back to you. My kids love to run and catch it!
Let me tell you, I saw Marisa Tomei on Ellen and she said that she gets in shape just by hooping everyday. I don’t know if she’s just doing it 6 hours a day or what. But I try to do at least ten minutes everyday definitely not getting those results yet. Check out this video of her hooping in her living room (which I also wish I had) Marisa’s obsession
I agree with you…I love the hula hoop…we love to play games with it…but for the life of me, I cannot keep it spinning on my hips. And I don’t know why. I do fine on the wii
I have a neat hoola hoop game for tweens & teens that my 15 year old daughter & her friends play at her parties. They form a line holding hands and start at one end with the hoop. It has to end up at the other end without anyone letting go of the other persons hand. It’s fun to watch them wiggle it over their heads & feet, I love to record it and we all watch later.
I was in charge of games at a company picnic a few years ago and we played this game. We stood in a big circle instead of a line so everyone could watch everyone else manipulating the hula hoop. I think the adults enjoyed this more than the kids did!
My favorite for a worn out hula hoop. Wrap it in greenery for a beautiful large wreath. Tie a big bow and add a few silk flowers. Looks great and you can change the decorations with the seasons.
