Wondering how to make icing with confectioners sugar? Here’s how to make your own healthy icing recipe or frosting recipe.

How to Make Confectioners Sugar Using Raw Sugar

Raw sugar or whole cane sugars are healthier options to choose when making your confectioners sugar. Sugar in excess of course isn’t healthy, no matter the type. But if you’re going to make some sweets, using raw sugar or whole cane sugar is the better option.

Ingredients:

Directions:
  1. Add sugar to a well-dried blender (we don’t want any moisture in our sugar).
  2. Turn the blender on high until the sugar forms a nice powdery substance.
  3. Sift out any pieces that didn’t turn powdery enough with a sifter.
  4. Revel in your “healthier” powdered sugar that’s perfect for sprinkling, baking or making confectioners sugar icing.

And yes it is as good as it looks. Now slab some of that yummy goodness on a muffin or cake.

One final note: If you use raw whole cane sugar, you will get a slight molasses flavor. If you aren’t a fan of that, stick with just raw sugar. You can of course use regular bleached sugar, but that’s not the way to keep this recipe healthier.

What is your favorite variation on this frosting?

Awesome this just made my day! I’m allergic to corn so I can’t have regular powdered sugar anyways!

Nice tip! I was lucky enough to find organic powdered sugar for .79 cents a while ago, and of course I bought 2, but this is great!
