I’ve used a lot of different methods for washing clothes. You all have seen me talk about homemade laundry detergent, soap nuts and of course Seventh Generation here on my blog. A lot of people would consider me extremely “granola” when it comes to certain things. I like down-to-earth living, natural things and living off the land (I’m not there yet, but that’s my dream for “some day”).
I’m not going to sugar-coat this post. I like saving money by making my own detergent or using soap nuts. BUT, there is one bottle of store-bought laundry detergent that I always keep stocked as a back-up in my laundry room, and that’s Seventh Generation. I’m not about to sell-out and say this is the only thing you should use. There are great alternatives that are more natural than this product. But if you want a green product without petroleum and most of the other awful chemicals in laundry detergents these days, then this is the brand for you.
Here’s why…
Seventh Generation Laundry Detergent is:
- A biodégradable formula
- Hypoallergenic
- Free of optical brighteners, dyes, perfumes, and synthetic fragrances
- Non-toxic
- U.S. Certified Biobased Product (96%)
It really doesn’t get much better than that when it comes to products on the shelf. So whether you are like me and totally dig making your own detergent and using things like soap nuts, it’s still good to keep a Seventh Generation back-up in the laundry room.
And if you aren’t like me, then what’s stopping you from using this brand? Yeah, it’s a little more expensive than the XX store brand on the shelves, but you’re getting something without all those toxins in it.
Here’s a thought…laundry detergent goes on your clothes, which touch your skin all day and all night (unless of course you’re a nudist). The skin is the biggest organ on the body and absorbs things that touch it (just think about those nicotine and birth control patches – yeah…stuff absorbs through the skin). It’s no wonder skin cancer is so rampant these days! I highly doubt it’s completely the sun’s fault, since it’s been around since the beginning of time… People have lived out of doors for eons, and just recently skin cancer is on the rise. Why is this? I’m not blaming the laundry detergent companies, but it does make you think, right?
So if you’re wanting to avoid all those toxins being on you and your family all day and all night without having to commit to being a nudist, it’s best to find a more natural/greener alternative for laundry care.
Seventh Generation and Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax have joined forces to inspire families to conserve the earth’s resources with conscious consumption. If every U.S. household replaced just one bottle of 100 oz. 2X concentrate petroleum-based laundry liquid with Seventh Generation’s 50 oz. 4X concentrate plant-derived product, we could save enough oil to heat and cool 15,700 U.S. homes for a year. Make a difference by choosing high-quality and effective products from Seventh Generation, now offering free shipping for any purchase over $50!As the Lorax says,“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.”
