Instead of using air fresheners which contain harsh chemicals and sometimes come in aerosol sprays that are wasteful and contain harmful gases, try a more natural approach with baking soda.
Use baking soda in your refrigerator or garbage can to remove disgusting odors, and it removes them without any adverse effects to your air quality. You can also combine baking soda with water and a few drops of your favorite essential oil for a natural room spray and air freshener.

Sams sells a GIANT bag too
We use it for so much around here
I get the giant bag as well, but purchase it at Costco. Love it!
It also makes an awesome exfoliator for my face. Love it!
What is the ratio of Baking Soda: water?
Well you don’t want anything that you spray to be real filmy, so I guess about 1-2 teaspoons for an entire spray bottle.
Thank you!
A question….to make the air freshener spray: doesn’t the baking soda neutralize the scent of the essential oils?
That’s a great question Judy! I’ve never noticed it to do so.
You can place a bowl (or fridge box) inside the air intake for your A/C to help absorb odors. I also sprinkle it on carpets before I vacuum to freshen the house as well as putting it in litter boxes.
Thanks! this sounds like a great idea. I think I will try it today.
What is the baking soda to water ratio?
Hey Gina. I use about 1-2 tsp of baking soda for a spray bottle full of water.
Thanks! I love your site btw!
Thanks Gina!
