I blog about a lot of different things, and a lot of random deals. I don’t do every deal I post (gasp). If I did, I’d be broke! Seriously, there are just way too many deals out there (that’s why I always recommend that everything be done in moderation).
But when I talk about the necessity of eating fruits and veggies, I’m not just saying it to have something to say. I’m very passionate about this! Having a healthy diet means better overall health.
Here’s what came in our $15 Farmer’s Market Basket this week:
- Organic Blueberries
- Organic Bananas
- Strawberries
- Zuccini
- Onions
- Potatoes
- Tomatoes
- Honeydew
- Corn
- Fuji Apples (yum!)
- Green Beans
- Lettuce
Not a bad deal for $15! While it’s not all organic, I’m of the mindset that it’s better to have something rather than nothing at all, and to make do with whatcha got. Find a co-op or local farm near you at LocalHarvest.org.

I LOVE my CSA. Every week I get as excited as if it was Christmas Morning. I love trying new fruits and veggies and love that it is all grown locally. (It just tastes better when it has time to ripen on vine instead of in a truck across country.) Plus, it has been fun to try out new recipes – who knew I liked turnips?
There is a huge benefit to buying local. So although organic may be better in many situations I would choose local almost every time. I wouldn’t feel bad that not all of it is organic.
I love this! Thanks for posting, I wish we had one here
Wow Crystal, that was a great deal. I found a local farmer set up in town this morning (which he usually is set up every Saturday morning) with a truckload of sweet corn. It was calling my name
I wish that I were disciplined enough to tend a garden. We tried one year and when Hurricane Katrina happened we got alot of the disastrous winds that knocked our corn over and broke each and every stalk (not to mention we had to re roof our house). I don’t know which bothered me most…J/K. From then on out I’ve not had enough heart to try again. I need something to give me a lil’ inspiration
I belong to a CSA with home delivery and love it. It forces you to try new things and to actually have to eat more fruits and vegs. Curious about your picture. It looks like the strawberries are Dole brand ( and maybe the potatoes) and the blueberries are a company brand too. How is that “farmers market?” This isn’t to criticize, and it’s great that people are buying more fruits and vegs. Side note too, of all the produce there the MOST contaminated are the potatoes. If there is one item there that really should be organic it’s the potatoes. Thanks for your blog, and I know it’s baby steps for all of us.
The co-op picks the fruits and veggies up at the State Farmer’s Market (in GA) and then they sort it out for the baskets in the warehouse. Local farms also grow some of the produce just for the co-op (like the red potatoes). I am so thankful for the co-op and would never have found it if I hadn’t seen it on here! Thanks!
What co-op is this through I live in Acworth, Ga and wold love to get a basket!!

I’d at least try it once!
You are blessed to have such a cheap co-op deal! Ours nearest to us require minimum amounts of money that must be spent and the amount is more than we can afford right now.
