Natural and Thrifty in 365: #284 Rescue Community Fruit

Do you have a fruit or nut tree in your yard? Have you ever felt overwhelmed by the abundance of fruit to harvest?
If you would like to reduce food waste and help feed the poor in your community, consider organizing a fruit rescue organization. The idea is to gather volunteers who are willing to harvest fruits from neighborhood growers who might have too much to harvest or who might not be able to harvest due to age or illness. A third of the fruit goes to the grower, a third to local food banks and the final third is split among the harvest volunteers.
A fruit rescue organization is a thrifty way to help provide for your family, serve the needs of growers, and feed the poor in your neighborhood.
