I’m doing something a little different this year. Last year I kept track of how much total I spent and saved on our grocery budget. Amazingly we ate healthy meals for under $2,000 for the year. That was for a family of four! However, I won’t be keeping track of everything this year. It takes too much energy on my part to take photos, track all spending and saving, and then posting it all. I know now how well I am doing, as do you all! I just don’t see a need to track everything again, especially when my time would be better spent on other things involving my blog.
I will however continue with Shopping Superstars and show off some of my great bargains and grocery shopping. And I will continue to have the link up so we can all help each other save money on our grocery bills!
Today I went to Publix with a local reader named Amy. I hadn’t been shopping since before Christmas, so it was time to get some staples. This made my out of pocket more than usual. My spending was definitely more than Amy’s, as she spent $11 and saved over $70!! Way to go Amy!! My spending was $72.82, with a savings of $94.53. Not as good as Amy, but I’m still happy seeing as I haven’t been shopping in almost four weeks.
I stocked up a little on meat, veggies and organic pumpkin puree (clearanced to .80 cents a can!). If you have been following me on Facebook, you know my husband has injured his back. For this reason I splurged on a few things that will make for easy meals. Normally I like to make most of our meals from scratch without using processed foods, but we are kind of in survival mode right now. With waiting on my husband, taking care of two toddlers and running a blog, I’m a little overwhelmed as of late.
For these reasons we may be spending a little more on food this month, as I don’t have as much time for couponing and baking from scratch. We also picked up a Farmers Market Basket this week, and are well stocked on fresh fruits and vegetables!

Um, do you make home visits to Utah.
That is amazing that you kept track of everything last year. Once you’ve mastered what you have, and know your grocery budget with over spending not being an issue, I think it’s wise to not track it.
