Shopping Superstars – I’m Back with Farmer’s Market Produce

After a crazy week of packing and moving, we’re finally in our new home (more details to come soon). Our new home is within walking distance of a local farmer’s market, so I went over this morning and found some great bargains on local organic produce. Total spent on everything in the photo: $15

The most amazing find was the apples. One guy sold me a huge basket filled with golden delicious apples for $3! I also got 5 more pounds of apples from another lady for $5. I’ll be peeling, cutting and freezing these for recipes later. I plan on making a lot of oatmeal-apple pudding during the cold months.

So that was my amazing find for this week, what did you get? Share in the comment section or leave a linky. No spamming please.

Great deal on the apples. Here in the Hudson Valley we can lease an apple tree at a no spray farm for $50. We can pick as many apples as we like. Each tree usually produces around 250lbs. That’s about 20c/lb for no spray apples!
I’d suggest people see if deals like that exist in their areas!

While at Food 4 Less this week, I got about 20 lbs of butter for $1 each and 2.5 dozen eggs for $1.88. I also had catalina coupons for $13 off my purchase.

I know this may be a silly question… but, do you just peel and cut up the apples to freeze them? Or do you have to add anything to them before they go in the freezer? We can get apples pretty cheap now and then, but I wasn’t sure how to preserve them… Any help is appreciated!!

Ah – yesterday I got 30 lbs of apples at $.70 per pound! We are going to make mostly applesauce, but if you have any other awesome apple recipes, I would love to try them out :)
