This week the kids and I, along with my awesome friend Erin, went shopping at Costco. It’s been a while since I’ve been shopping for groceries, so we stocked up on some great organic deals.

For the price of $122, I got the following:
- Bolthouse Farms Kirkland Organic Carrot Juice 3-32oz. $6.99
- Nature’s Path Ancient Grains Organic Granola 2-17.6oz. $6.99
- Texmati Brown Rice Organic 6lb $9.39 or $1.56/lb
- Annie’s Organic Fruit Snacks 24ct. $9.79 or $.40/pk.
- Animal Crackers Organic 64oz. $8.29
- 2 Kirkland Organic Tortilla Chips 40oz. $4.59
- 2 Salsa Organic 66oz. $5.99
- Organic Sliced Apples 8-6oz. bags $7.99
- Spring Mix Organic Salad 1lb. $3.99
- Vinegar (white) 1.3gal $3.29 or $.02 cents per oz
- Vita Coco Coconut Water 12-11.2oz. $14.69
- Baking Soda 13.5lb. $5.39
- 2 Avocados 5ct. $6.99 (these are the best Avocados I can find anywhere!)
- Dark Chocolate Acai snacks 2lb. $9.79 (these are definitely worth trying at least once!)
Many of these products will last us several months, and the rice and baking soda will probably last me a year or more. I use baking soda for baking of course, but also as a natural green cleaner. While in the store, Erin and I made an Organic Price List for Costco. We arrived at the store near closing, so we weren’t able to write down all of the organic deals. But when I revisit the store next month, I’ll be sure to add everything else I find to the list. The list I have so far is huge, so check out the Costco deals here.
And I can’t believe that I almost forgot to show you my after-Christmas clearance finds that I got at Target. Most items cost me .25 cents each:

My MIL has a costco membership so I’m going to ask her to pick up the animal crackers for the kids school lunches, I didn’t know costco had so many organic items, but I don’t think they are all really good deals, if I did the math right the apples for one, come out to 2.66 a pound which is a lot even for Organic in my opinion. I can usually get organic apples for 1.50 a pound this time of year. I slice a few to keep in the fridge for the kids to get on their own, I use ball fruit fresh on them, I guess that no longer makes it organic? I don’t know.
I completely agree on the apples, but I decided to get those so the kids could have some fresh fruit while a storm comes through here. We are supposedly getting hit hard and I am out of apples. I’m definitely going to have to stock up better next fall when the apples are practically falling off the trees.
How do you keep the avocados from going bad? Do you freeze them with or without the pit? I find it’s hit or miss – I buy what I think is an under-ripe avocado and a few days later, it’s gone bad.
I gave split some of the avocados with my mom, but yes you can make guacamole and freeze it. You just need to cover it with wax paper, and then bag it to seal out all the air.
Just wanted to give you guys a heads up that Target is clearancing out a lot of their old stuff…a lot of 30% and 50% off. They had a HUGE amount of toys clearanced 50% off. It was so hard not to buy things…I know though most people wait until it is 75% off.
I’m headed to Target Sunday or Monday to try to grab something! What a trip!
Our Costco shopping carts are wide enough to have two kids sit in front. Does your cart not have that or did your girl choose to sit in the “back”. My now 7 yo thinks the carts are so cool that he still asks to ride in front when we are at Costco. LOL ~Patti
Yes ours are double, but it was late and the kids were not happy sitting next to each other.
That sounds like a great deal to me especially on the organic salad mix ( I think Earthbound farm is the best!) and on the tortilla chips. My local walmart charges $5 for their generic Organic salad mix and it is only 10 oz.! I wish we had a Costco around here!
I know Costco has their own coupons you can use there, but are you able to use man. Qs from newspaper fliers and the internet there as well? I am heavily looking into a membership since I saw your list of organic prices there. Definitely makes buying organic affordable!
