in Deals, Retail Stores

staples logo tagline Staples Rockin Sale Starting 7/12

It’s that time of year again! The time when stores start selling school supplies for mere pennies! And that’s no exaggeration. Starting tomorrow 7/12, Staples is having items priced at .01 cent to a $1. And they have a lot of buy one get one free deals going on as well. Pencils and Copy Paper are the penny items for this week. AND in the weekly ad there will be a $5 off of a $20 total purchase coupon! This is definitely the time to start preparing for school.

Don’t have children to prepare for? How about picking up supplies to donate. It’s almost time for most churches to be running those bookbag of supplies donation campaigns. You remember those, where we get a chance to donate bookbags of supplies to children in need. This is a great week to start stocking up!

Check out your weekly ad HERE. I suggest getting there early, as they will probably sell out of the best deals quickly.

Haven’t ever done the penny item at Staples. Do you have to buy a min. with that?

No there is not a minimum on the penny item, but you can only buy a maximum of two. The copy paper is technically full price and you can only get two easy rebates on that item. When they say easy rebate they mean easy rebate. It is online and very easy to fill out. Sometimes if you have proof that you are a teacher some of the office supply stores let you buy more than the maximum of two. I look forward to the penny items every year.

If you are looking for a place to donate the school supplies call your local school and see what the kids use most often and find out if you can donate them there. With all of the budget cuts it is getting harder for teachers to supply pencils, paper, etc for their students.

I forgot to mention that I am a teacher and one of the things that I did not buy enough of is during the great sales was dry erase markers. All colors are great but the most used are black.

One of the things that I also did for my own children was make a supply basket for their teachers/classmates on my child’s birthday. I asked permission to bring in snacks and we celebrated their birthday by giving the class a gift. The teachers loved this idea because no child was left out and the whole class benefited. Of course I spent almost nothing on the supplies but they didn’t have to know that!

Thanks for all the work you do to help us save money! It also helps stretch the money for donations to those in need, whether it’s toiletries, groceries, school supplies, or whatever. The school supplies work really well for Operation Shoebox donations, back to school drives and helping local schools. If you don’t need the paper for your own use, that is something I know schools were running short of and teachers have been buying with their own money.

A couple things to note about the Staples ad the 1 cent items are only through Wednesday.

The best part is if you buy all of the $1 items and the 1 cent items you should reach the $20 min for the coupon. So, after the 2 paper 3.68 rebates and the $5 coupon it should cost about $7.64!

Plus, make sure you use or get the staples reward card which is free to apply for. You get some perks too.

Just to add that if you are a teacher, you can purchase more than 2-1 cent items. The maximum varies by store it seems, but I was able to buy 25 packs of pencils today for 1 cent each. Just remember to bring your teacher id.
