start walking Natural and Thrifty in 365: #96 Start Walking

There are so many videos, equipment and fitness regimens out there that are cool, but are not necessarily green or easy on the budget. One of the easiest ways to stay healthy, get fit and save money is to just start walking.

Recently I was in New York City for a trip. I was fed amazing food by the company that took me out there, but not a lot of it was healthy. And let’s face it, it’s hard to eat healthy while traveling. I was so worried that I would gain weight back that I had recently taken off, but fortunately for me I had done a lot of walking in New York. I was amazed to find that I had actually lost weight on my trip despite all the added calories and fats.

You may not think you are doing a lot when walking, but you really are. Just walking for twenty minutes a day for 3-5 days a week can start you losing weight, and decrease your risk for many illnesses including heart disease.

So just start walking, and have a greener workout!

I’ve set up a simple walking routine for next week. What do you all think? http://www.thethriftymama.com/community/#/116944/forum/135913/week-of-thanksgiving-walking-routine.html

I walk every day for at least an hour. We adopted an older shelter puppy in the spring, and this girl has lots of energy! I had knee surgery last December and have decided not to run for now after doing so for 15 years. Walking has been great. I’m not losing weight, although I’m at my goal weight, but I’m in my 40s and my daily dog walks have been fabulous in helping me to maintain my weight. Plus, it’s so much fun to get out with my happy and energetic girl!
