Total Spent: $42.13  Cost Before Coupons: $192.38

I should have saved $5 more in coupons, but I forgot to give my extra coupons to the cashier (yes, it’s true that I’m not perfect).

Did you know that you can get free item coupons by contacting companies?  It’s true! Companies want you to try their products.  You can contact them for almost any reason, and they will usually send you some great coupons, including coupons for free items.  So where do you start?  Cindi on the forums gave a great list of 171 places to contact for coupons here.  That’s a great place to start, but I also like to contact my favorite organic companies for coupons.  Recently I went to several events and was able to collect a lot of free item coupons from companies.  So along with the weekly Target deals, I picked up a lot of free products.

Here’s what I got today:

25 Kashi Snacks (five free with promo)
-20 $1/1 coupons that Susan from Organic Deals and Coupons sent me (check ebay for some)

3 Kashi Honey Sunshine Cereal $2.88
-$1/1 coupons

6 Kashi Heart to Heart Cereal $2.88
-$1.50/1 printable coupons

4 Organic Mozzarella Cheese Sticks .59 (in the deli)
-2 $.50 Target printable coupons

2 Ovaltine $2.85
-$1/1 Target printable coupons

2 Organic Honest Kids Drinks $2.99
-$1/2 Target printable coupon

Free Items:

6 Juicy Juice
7 Happy Baby Organic Products
1 Hebrew National hot dogs
1 Yoplait Whips
1 Yoplait Pack
2 Blue Bunny Ice Creams
1 Redi Whip – had hang tags for $2 off Redi Whip and Swiss Miss Target Coupon
1 Swiss Miss
1 Carnation Instant Breakfast
1 Healthy Choice
1 Marie Callender’s

Also used $15 in gift cards from a previous deal.  Target offers gift card deals quite frequently.

Just because you don’t have the same coupons that I do, doesn’t mean you can’t get them!  Give it a shot and start contacting these companies!  And check out all the rest of the Target deals for the week here.

My Super Target only lets us use ONE of their printable coupons for each item, per transaction. :( They said people were abusing it.

Sorry Lisa, my Target doesn’t have an issue with that. I definitely don’t abuse it though.

If anybody has some of the $3/2 peelies that were in Target stores about 2 months ago for Kashi products you can do this:

Buy 5 Kashi snacks (1 free) = $10.36
Buy 5 Kashi cereal cups = $5.00

Use 5 $3/2 ANY Kashi product (so -$15.00)

Total: $.36 + tax

I did this last night…my store had a TON of the cereal cups, so I got 30 cups and 30 snacks for under $6 total including tax!

Here’s another thought… IF your Target store gives overage (most don’t, mine doesn’t) you can use the $1.50 Kashi Heart to Heart coupons on the $1 cereal cups and have the $.50 overage to help cover your Kashi snacks.

I’ve forgotten to use coupons too, and they still redeemed them for me when I went back with my receipt at customer service.

I stocked up at target today too on the kashi!! How often do you get harassed when you use that many coupons? Last time i went i noticed when i got home that the cashier didn’t scan 2 of my coupons ($6 worth!) and wouldn’t let me use the target kraft cheese coupon with the manufactures coupon…. geesh.

I actually had the most wonderful cashier today! I have never met such a nice cashier at Target in my life. Usually I avoid Target like the plague because I get harassed by the cashiers, but when I go back, I will be looking for this cashier. She was actually asking me to use more coupons and was so excited about my savings! I’m amazed.

I did 2 transactions. One upstairs one down stairs (our target is 2 levels). My first cashier was acting like the money I was saving was coming out of her check. My second one I actually called the manager about cause she ways just that nice. An she went above and beyond to fix a mistake she made. Awesome!

While the money you are saving may not be coming out of her check, it actually could get her in trouble. The reason so many Target cashiers are rude about coupons is because they are rated either green, yellow, or red based on the efficiency of their transactions. If you use a ton of coupons, that transaction will be “red” because it took so long. If a cashier has too many red transactions, it will result in a poor review for them. My husband used to be a manager at Target; this system drives everyone nuts and is a perfect example of a corporation not understanding real life!

i had an old lady like that recently at target, she took forever to ring up my coupons but was so excited and complimented me up and down. I love those kind of people. ;)

Bekki
Thanks for the insight on Target. I would never personally want a cashier to get a bad rate for my transactions, however my experience with Target is they spend most time taking out a pen to circle the exp.date and then check my bags to make sure the correct ounce is for the correct coupon??? If I am using 20 coupons the last thing I want to do is use a incorrect coupon. I HATE being treated poorly for using coupons! So I just do not shop at Target, I would think they would be more upset at the person who watches the transactions ring up THEN start looking in their pusrse to find a way of payment.
I think coupons are faster and less annoying than those customers??? Thanks again for the insight.

Just do what i do. I match up all my coupons with the items on the belt. This makes the transaction go a lot faster, and your cashiers will love you for it!

valerie March 6, 2010 at 4:44 pm

what are these “extra coupons” you speak of?

Since I don’t live very close to a Target, I usually don’t include it in my weekend shopping trips for groceries and household items. However, I did this weekend and scored big! Especially with Pledge cleaning products! I linked up on your most recent post. But here it is too….
