Many of you know that we will be moving soon. This is a bitter sweet time for us for many reasons.
We are so excited to find a beautiful home to move into that costs less per month than our current home, and has no evidence of mold in the house! Ever since the flooding in Georgia last year, our current rental house has had terrible problems with mold.
Things I will miss:
We have to say goodbye to our chickens. We will be living where they are not allowed, and cannot take them with us. We dropped them off our Granny’s house this past weekend. They regularly keep chickens, and were actually needing some more. I’ll miss those fresh eggs from the back yard. Our chickens were fabulous. We got to the point where we let them wander around the yard freely, and they even slept with our dog at night (I think they thought he was the rooster)!
Now I just need to find good fresh eggs to buy locally where we are going.
I’m also sad to leave our garden. I put a lot of time and effort into it, and while it’s had a rough time going with all the heat, I’m still not going to reap all the rewards of what I put into it. However, I am very excited that where we are going there is already a raised garden bed area in place. So I will be doing a little bit of planting for the fall this year in our new place (pics to come in the coming weeks and months).
Things I look forward to:
Getting rid of clutter! It always amazes me how much junk we accumulate. So far I’ve created a huge pile in the living room of things to get rid of.
I’m so thankful for my little helpers who are most certainly NOT going in the Trash or Recycle pile. They were just so cute climbing in the boxes that I had to snap a photo!
But mostly I am excited about a fresh start in a beautiful home! The house is an old-time colonial style with big hallways and rooms. It’s absolutely gorgeous and I can’t wait to share photos of our move! More to come…

Good luck!! We are going through the same thing right now but we’re heading to Germany, downsizing into a 2 bedroom apartment (from a 3 bedroom house) AND adding to our family in February so it’s going to be very interesting! We’ve been “de-cluttering” and selling a lot of furniture and we just put our house on the market today so it’s definitely bitter sweet…but a lot more sweet than bitter I think! (At least I hope!!) I’ve never even left the country before!
I’m thrilled that you are so excited to be moving into your new home. Our family just moved three weeks ago into a house and our now in process of selling our camper so I know just how exciting (on one hand) and how difficult (on the other) moving can be. Of course, this is probably the easiest move we’ve ever had- we just drove our old home to our new one. LOL Instead of going to the thrift stores to donate items, I’m looking for stuff. Can’t wait to see pictures! I’m a sucker for older homes with all the character- it sounds lovely!
Good luck with the move!!
Crystal, So sorry to hear of your mold problem. I have a wonderful friend who had to leave–along with her husband and *nine* beautiful children–their dream home in Colorado, due to mold that was poisoning their family. They abandoned the newer house nearly two years ago, but still are suffering enormously, health-wise, from the damaging effects. SOOO good that you are moving out soon, before your family becomes harmed.
This woman is a believing Christian, her husband hosts a nationally-syndicated radio show; they were neighbors of mine here in Chicago when they attended and then worked at the radio station at the Moody Bible Institute.
Highly recommend her site for reading about their journey as well as learning so much about mold and dealing with the after math and health issues. God bless you.

Thanks so much for the link Sharon!
Oh No – they can’t be the trash and recycling??!?
We just recently moved too and I totally get the tiny bit of, yes, *grief* leaving a garden. I tried to bring as many things as possible…I carried little cuttings in pots in my car over a 4 day trip from Nebraska to Pennsylvania. Needless to say, only a few things survived, but I do have a little reminder of our old home.
God taught me a lesson with this move though…You know the story of the little girl who has to give up her old dirty beaded necklace to her Daddy so he could give her the gift of a new pearl necaklace? Well, once I gave up having a real garden in our rental (with a small deck and large cliff out the back), we purchased a home and it happened to come with some overgrown, but beautiful gardens. THe gardens are ten-fold what I’ve ever had in the past and every plant I bought or wanted to buy or wanted to bring along is present. Under all the layers of weeds, there were hibiscus plants, peonies, lavender bushes (which ALWAYS die on me) 2 apple trees (I left behind fruit tree saplings that I had nurtured for a year), gorgeous hydrangeas (which I had been layering in our old home to create more plants), hosta, coneflower (which I’ve always wanted), a smokebush (which I had just read about in a magazine and wanted to try) and labsear that is truly growing like a weed…I hope to make literal carpets of it! My heart is so full of plants!
Hopefully you are a bit encouraged about what you will be given at the new palce. I know how it is to labor over planting bulbs and then moving before you get a chance to move in the spring. I’ve done this twice now…I can’t wait to see what God has lying in wait under the soil this spring…Many surprises for you too I’m wagering…
I didn’t even realize the extent of the blessings before typing this comment up…amazing is our God…
Amy – your story is truly inspiring. God is so good, and I’m continually amazed at the ways he blesses me. Often times I’ve been discontent with things (although I should be content in everything), and I’ve even gotten so low as to wonder where God was. But when I stopped and actually prayed about the situation, I’ve seen the answer to prayers and the blessings of God come through. He really is amazing, and it’s always the little things He does for us that blow my mind.
