My Walgreens Trip

0022 300x225 My Walgreens Trip

Walgreens has this pretty cool Register Reward deal going on.  For every $25 you spend before coupons, you get a $5 Register Reward.  And you can include other Register Reward deals with this.

So here’s the scenario I put together on the fly, because they were limiting the Huggies Wipes to 4 per customer at my store:

4 Huggies Wipes $2.79 each
5 Bic Highlighters .39 cents each
1 Softsoap Bodywash $3.99
2 Listerine Kids Mouthwash $4.89

Coupons Used:
-$2/1 Huggies Coupon from the Walgreens Back to School booklet (took off $8)
-2 $1/2 Bic Printables (no longer available, but I think there are some in the 8/9 inserts?)
-B1G1 Listerine coupon from the 8/2 SS
-$1/1 Listerine from the 6/14 inserts
-$1/1 Listerine Walgreens coupon from the Activity Book (takes off $2)
=$10.80 Out of Pocket, Earn $12 Register Rewards.

If I had the Huggies wipes manufacturer coupons, then I could have saved $2 more.  But unfortunately we were all sick that weekend, and I didn’t get inserts as I normally do. If you have the Huggies Wipes coupons, then this scenario becomes a $3.20 moneymaker!  More if you leave off one of the Bic highlighers (that was where I messed up).

Also, I saw Summer Items are all clearanced to 75% off.  flip flops were as low as .39 cents a pair!  I don’t know if all stores have gone to 75% off or not, but it’s worth checking!

Update

Here’s My Plan for Tomorrow When I go Back:

2 Packs of Pampers $10 each
2 Huggies Wipes $2.79 each
Use $4 and $3 Register Rewards from tonight (not the $5 because I want another one of those to print)
Use 2 $1.50 Pampers coupons from the recent PG insert (some people got $2 coupons)
Use $2 Walgreens Huggies Coupon (takes off $4) (also use the Manufacturer coupons if you have them)

Spend $11.58 out of pocket, Earn $5 Register Rewards and $2 Register Rewards
Makes it $4.58 after coupons and Register Rewards for Two Packs of Pampers, and Two Tubs of Wipes!

And I will still have $12 in Register Rewards left over to spend on whatever I want in the store.

It’s awesome that you are able to actually do deals that work at Walgreens. The stores in South Florida are set to not print register rewards when you use a coupon. The managers treat couponers like criminals, and corporate had absolutely no response to the misleading advertising on the register rewards. Sigh…

I’m so sorry to hear that Tracey. It seems Florida gets the short end of the stick when it comes to couponing. And not just at Walgreens, but Publix too! So sad. Come move up my way!

I went to Walgreens and bought the listerine and the softsoap but for some reason it wouldn’t print out the register rewards for those and a few other items I purchased. Is it because I used the register rewards from the last trip where I purchased those items? Do you know do the register rewards keep track of previous purchases so you can’t get them again, or what would be the reason for them not printing? It did print out the $5 for the $25 purchase, and one other register reward for $3, but not for the others. I’m frustrated because I should have come out just owing a few dollars, but still ended up paying about $15 for everything even after the rewards and all the coupons.

If you pay with register rewards from a deal, you can’t use the register rewards to get that same deal again. ie. If you got the Softsoap earlier and earned the $4 Register Reward, you can’t get another Softsoap, pay with that specific $4 RR and earn another $4 RR. Makes sense? But you CAN use RRs from different companies and a new one print. ie. I could use the Listerine RR to buy the softsoap and the softsoap RR would print and vice versa.

Last week I did the huggies wipes and got them for $.25 with the $2/1 and a mf coupon. This week I went back and our coupon book has the coupon save $1/1. I was mad. They did not have any anyway so I will go to a different store today. Frustrating.

My two Wag’s didn’t have enough, so I went to the one by my sisters. I got 9 tubs of wipes @ $2.99 each ($26.91). I used the back to school coupon which took $18 off ($8.91). Then I had 9 $.75 manufacture coupons (from a friend that works for the company that prints them!) taking a further $6.75 off bringing it down to $2.16 total out of pocket (before tax). And my $5 register reward printed out. My first huge deal!!!

Tracey,

I live in south florida too and agree with you on walgreens hating to take coupons…i barely shop there anymore because of issues i’ve had with them…

we also had to complain at Publix because certain cashiers wanted all our coupons up front to exmaine them and find the products they go with, which took them forever…i told one girl, if the product isn’t there, your machine will beep…

i do not know why florida hates coupons so much.

So has it been confirmed the $5 RR for spending $25 doesn’t roll?? How sad!

Where are the coupon books for the $2 Huggies? Are they still available? Anyone got any extras?

I am with Tracey…Walgreen’s treat people who use coupons like you are some kind of robber. If you call corporate they do very little if anything!

The coupon is included in an orange Back to School flier located in the front of the store with the weekly ads. In my walgreens, the front of the coupon says $2 off, but the back says $1 off. But every time I have bought them, the coupon has always rung up at $2 off.

Tracey, I am from South Florida too and their gimmicks drive me crazy. It is hit or miss for using manufacturers’ coupons and getting a RR, sometimes it does work… I recently hit all my close stores and got a $6 RR printed for getting the clearance Reach toothbrushes, and I did use the $5/3 coupons, so I only paid $.50 OOP…

beth they are right when you walk in (on the same rack as the add) where the Rebate books used to be. It is a folded flier. Hope that helps. Also, I read on another blog that they say $1 but are taking $2 off when rang through, when I find a Wags with wipes on their shelves I will be purchasing more.

Walgreens here in TN is not much better, i even had a manager tell me once that i couldnt stack the coupons, caus in his opinion it wouldnt ring up, 3 items, 1 walgreens coupon and 3 coupons, good for me he was wrong…the coupons rang up perfectly fine, but i guess at least he tried to keep some money for his company, and i was happy to walk out with my first tried deal ever.

@Erin,
The listerine deal has been a month long deal. Last week it was better as it gave a larger RR, but to answer your question, yes it is the same deal as next weeks now.

I’m so sorry that so many people in South Florida are having problems with Wags and Publix! I live in the Panhandle, and for us that is simply not the case! Publix and Walgreens are WONDERFUL, but actually so is Winn-Dixie and CVS too. Maybe it is because I’m in a small town?

One GOOD thing about Publix in FL is that since they do true BOGO sales, we get stuff for FREE all the time with our BOGO coupons.

I’m in S. Florida and I’ve never had a problem having an RR to print when I use a coupon.

I just had to chime in here to say that my experience with Walgreens has been nothing but positive. Every store I have ever been to, the cashiers are helpful (one even reminded me when I almost messed up a RR deal by trying to “roll” it). They go out of their way to make sure I get the most out of my coupons. I don’t work for Walgreens or have any interest in them, but we have two new stores in our area and I am very impressed with their customer service!

I’m in South Florida too. I have had a lot of problems with Walgreens in the past, but in the last month I have done tons of deals and haven’t had any problems. I am always talking to the manager and it seems that a lot of the kinks have been worked out, at least in our store. As far as Publix…that is hit or miss depending on the Cashier. It’s either a wonderful experience or horrible.

Are the bic highlighters an unadvertised deal or ? I am just wondering bc I don’t see them in my ad for 39c and I don’t want to plan a trip and get confused when I get there…thanks!

I get mixed reactions at our Walgreens here in Texas.. I have my favorite cashier, that knows my passion for coupons, and he laughs when he sees me coming and says stuff like…”what, thats ALL the coupons you have today, come on, you can do better than that…lol”. But i had others roll their eyes, when they see me coming..hey, since they cut my hours at work, i have to do what i have to do to save..Its not like i m trying to pull one over on WG..Lord knows, i stocked up on the wipes. WHO WOULDN`T?

Are you able to use the coupons for the wipes and get more than one box in ONE TRANSACTION? or do you need to go thru the line several time??? I’m new to using coupons like this.

I tried to use the BIC coupon on the highlighters and it beeped because the markers only came to $.79 and the coupon was for a $1 off. The cashier had real issues. I’m going to try and go back tomorrow and find a different cashier and pick up some more Huggies Wipes.

Brooke August 21, 2009 at 10:42 pm

trina, if you take 6 boxes of wipes to the counter, give them one $2 coupon from the pamphlet, and it will automatically deduct $12… works for any amount you buy in one transaction.

I haven’t seen it officially posted anywhere… the $5 RR from the buy $25 get $5 RR doesn’t roll. I tried it this morning, but since it expires on the 31st, I would have needed to use it soon!
